Before jumping right into a home business, think about how much available space you have in your home that can be dedicated to the business. Many home businesses can get by with very little in the way of floor space.  If you do not expect a lot of foot traffic, essentially performing your work on the Internet, then you probably do not need a lot of floor space to provide a good working environment.

Room To Move

On the other hand, you do not want your home office space to be so cluttered with your business equipment and supplies that there is not enough room to move. Working in a confined area can be very frustrating. Many people really like to spread out while they work and others are happy with just enough space to hold what they need, but whichever personality you have, the space needs to be neat, clean and organized.

You do not always have to settle for the smallest room in the house if you are planning to isolate your office from the rest of the house, nor should you chase everyone out of the family room so you can have a bigger desk and way more file cabinets than you will ever use. Get out your pencil, paper and measuring tape and make a drawing of what your ideal home office space should look like and then adjust it to fit into the available area of the house. It is never a good idea to use the kitchen table as your home office desk, but if you have to use the kitchen, find another table that fits so you don’t end up with food stains on your work.

What Do I Need?

As a general rule you will need a desk, typically about four-feet long along with a chair in order to work comfortably in your new home office. A single filing cabinet for your record keeping may also have a top large enough to hold your computer’s printer, fax machine or other type of office equipment, requiring no additional floor space. You will also need a trashcan and a shredder.  Having said all of that, I have decided I like working on a little smaller desk when I am working on my home business.  I offer free shopping memberships to people in every country so they can save money and making money in the process.  I have one folder for my records because the vast majority of everything I need remains on my computer for easy  access.

Depending on your type of  home business, you may have a need for a larger table on which to layout larger projects. However, unless it will be used on a daily basis, you can find other accommodations when it is needed. Using the kitchen table once in a while is not forbidden, provided you clean it up before dinnertime.

Realistically, an eight-foot square room may be all you need, but after a few days it may feel more like serving a sentence than going to work. You will want it to be open and airy, but put any windows to the side or behind your chair to minimize distractions. You should never use additional office space for storage. Once boxes of junk are put in place, they are going to be there for the long haul.

Think carefully about how you work and how you want your home business office to work for you before setting it in stone.

Website owners have found that they can increase their profits by eight times or more simply by using web based email marketing. It’s important to understand the typical buying cycle, the importance of follow up and how a back end increases your bottom line in order to understand how email marketing can affect your business.

Understand the Buying Cycle

The majority of  people  simply will not buy the first time they see your website. About 99% of your visitors will land on your website and leave without buying anything.

That doesn’t mean they weren’t interested in your product. It just means they weren’t interested right now. Or perhaps they just don’t trust you or know you enough yet.

Letting these people go is like letting 99% of your advertising dollars go to waste. Instead, to really maximize your profits you must learn to follow up and get sales from the remaining 99% who didn’t buy the first time around.

Follow Up for Major Sales Increase

But you still can turn 1% visitor into buyer by following up which is as much as 8% in the long run. That’s an 800% increase in revenue!

However, if you follow up then over time they’ll start to see that you’re a real business that will take care of their customers. They’ll begin to know and trust you.

You’ll also get your message in front of them at different points in their life, and you have a relatiionship with them when they are ready to buy.

Back End Is Importance to Your Bottom Line

Your real money is in your backend because these are the products and services they will see after a customer made their first order. Most business owners neglect this and focus only at front end sales.

Let’s say each month you make 30 sales at $100 for a total of $3,000. Most business owners would focus on getting those 30 sales to 40 sales.

Instead, a savvy business person would try and sell a $400 product to all 30 of those who bought. If about 20% take them up on it, that’s a $2,400 bump right off the bat .

Then a savvy business owner might try and sell a $1,000 product. With the right marketing, about 10% will buy. That’s an extra $3,000.

Finally, a savvy business person will likely try and implement some kind of membership program. At $97 a month , if it’s tied into the original product about 50% will sign up for about 4 months. That’s (15 times $97 times 4 equals) and extra $5,820 a month.

That’s an extra $11,220 on top of the $3,000 you’re already making from just 30 sales a month. As you can tell, selling more to your existing customers is much more profitable than trying to get more new customers.

The best way to sell more to existing customers is through web based email marketing. It’s the only free way to consistently follow up.

You now know the how the typical buying cycle works, you understand the importance of follow up and you know how much a good back end can boost your business. Apply this and web based email marketing to help your business explode its profits.

If you have your own business, whether it is a brick and mortar business or fully online, you should be aware of the benefits online marketing to you.

The Task Of Selling

To most small businesses, any sort of selling could be a difficult task, even online marketing. Honestly, it does take a lot of work and endurance, sometimes even cash. You will find that with an understanding of how internet marketing works you can utilize it to build your business.

Internet Savvy

In a very short time, the internet has become the most used technique of communication by the public. It is also becoming their favorite place to make purchases. Many people prefer the hassle free experience that online shopping affords.  On the Internet they can find the best items at the lowest prices with no waiting in line. Online marketing offers your business a cost effective selling tool that may boost your product distribution  network.

Advertising Methods

Online marketing is much cheaper than normal advertising methods, and since there are fewer invoices or fliers needed, you are able to save storage space too. When it is compared to printing brochures, managing a call center, or purchasing radio and TV advertising, you can see why many people prefer online marketing.

With online marketing you will be ready to reach millions of potential customers each day. Consumers are constantly looking for products and services on the internet, so when you advertise to your niche market on the internet you will have people actively seeking your products or services.

With an online store, you have the advantage of being open each day of the year. Online marketing gives you the chance to reach a larger number of people and at a cheaper price compared to conventional methods of advertising.

Online marketing also utilizes email which is an instant form of communication. It makes it simple to contact buyers and take orders right away. Using the internet can give you a major benefit over your rivals.

Methods Of Internet Advertising

These include ezines, blogs, pay per click ads, e-mail campaigns, traffic sites and many others. Using a combination of  advertising methods, you will find that you’re able to increase awareness of your company, fortify relationships with current customers, and attract new customers .  It pays to add online marketing to your advertising menu!

One of my readers commented on my last post  Internet Marketing Tools | Does One Size Fit All? that the public is much more technically savvy and able to discover sellers who have set out with the sole intention of  “duping” the public or at the very least, it’s all about them!   Still, many people are new to the Internet and the world of marketing.  Being new, everyone has a learning curve.

Network Marketing Partners

I am now with a good group of people in my primary business who I share information with on a regular basis (it wasn’t always this way). We talk to each other and see if anyone has tried the product or knows anything about it. We’ll have each other read the websites for information or check to see if one of the group has something similar we can all use.

If you have a group of experienced Internet marketers who are capable and willing to share all information, this is an excellent venue  and utilizes everyone’s experiences for the benefit of everyone.

Social Networking

Because I made some mistakes early on, I now do a lot more “networking” with people I meet and have developed a relationship with through various companies or social media sites.

Ask the question, “Do you know anything about…..?”  then check it out on forums for yourself.  Try a free version or look at any excerpts they may offer for you to “test drive”.  An opportunity to “test” the product  before purchasing the full package is always a great option.

brenda1As I mentioned on the last post, every single site I’ve been on that has Internet marketing tools say THEY have the very best material for you in every way. They all say the same thing, so how do you as a new marketer determine what is right for you?

A rating of the material with regards to necessary prerequisite skills would be helpful. Think of the wide variety of Web Site builder programs for example. Some are very “plug and play”, but will allow a pre-determined amount of templates or you can create custom web sites with very advanced programs.

How about a sample of “what you get” so that you can determine if it will work for you.? Maybe they could put an excerpt of the Internet Marketing Tools available on-line for you to see how they write, the topics they will cover, the depth of the information?

You can type in “the author’s name“ or “name of material” and “forum”.  This may bring up some discussion of the material for sale.  Having said that, remember people are more likely to post a negative comment before a positive one.

You also need to read all comments for a fair description of the material.  Maybe the network marketing training was too technical for Jack S., but great for the advanced user. Possibly the material was written only for beginners and that’s why Jodi M. was unhappy.  You can usually tell a fair review verses an emotional rant.

Talk to other people in your industry and see what Internet marketing tools they might recommend. You might be surprised at the number of helpful network marketing tips you get … for free. Ultimately you must decide if this expert fits with your needs. Is there a match?

There are numerous ways to generate links for your blogs. Submitting them to directories for review is an excellent option, but it is best to take a diversified approach to link building.

One method for generating free links to your site is blogging. I don’t mean writing and posting numerous articles in your own blog. What I mean is seek out blogs that post content related to your own sites niche. In particular find your competitors.

As an example let’s say your site sells camping equipment. Seek out the blogs which post on topics related to camping. This is easily done by a query with your favorite search engine.

Relavent Blog Information

Go through the list and find those that are most relevant to your site and have the highest quality of information. From there create a list of blogs.

When you have your list together go to each blog and start reading the posts. Blogs give readers the chance to comment on their posts so when you’re done reading, take a moment to make a thoughtful comment on the post. During that process it will give you the opportunity to enter your own website for a link back to it. Use it!

Now one reason that you want to seek out blogs that are relevant to your site is obvious. The links to your site will be more relevant.

Another reason you want to seek out the blogs of your competitors is that the readers of those blogs have already shown an interest in the topic. Since you chose blogs with content related to your own site when the readers of those blogs click on the link from your comment they will find a site they are interested in.

You will gain links to your site in addition to direct traffic that is targeted to you niche.

Commenting on A Blog

When you are leaving comments be careful. Everyone who has a blog knows what comment spam is and believe me they don’t like getting it.

Comment spam is short little comments like “great post” or “enjoyed the post”. Comments like these add nothing to the post and are just attempts to spam the post in order to get a link back. They are nearly always deleted by the blog owner. If your comment just gets deleted it won’t help you.

When making your comment, get your thoughts together and say something that might benefit the other blog readers or the author. This will not only increase your chance for getting your comment approved, it will also let the readers of the blog know you have some knowledge on the topic. That will increase your chances of them clicking your link to visit your site.   Getting traffic to your blog is what it is all about.

brenda6As an owner of a work from home business you have options that those who are working for someone else do not enjoy, but you must stay on top of the changing business world or fall behind.

While some of your competitors may fold during this time, but new competition may join the home-based business world, with new strategies for taking the lion’s share of the market share.

What can you do to thrive during a recession?

Reach New Borders
Change the borders of your territory. Even if your opportunity does not involve geographical limitations, this is the time to expand your reach to new prospects.

Prospects will still be looking for your products or opportunity, but the prospect may be found in different places than before.

The Internet is a tremendous resource for changing your reach without big outlays in new physical locations, additional franchises, and other requirements that many traditional businesses have. Use the advantage to build your work from home business.

brenda5There is little doubt network marketers are your number one target market when promoting your network marketing opportunity. Why?

Network marketers already know the business, how it works, and more importantly, what’s required. Network marketers are people who are normally looking for a better way of life.

But just pitching to MLMers the old school way won’t cut it. Don’t be surprised if you get run out of town just putting it mildly. Targeting network marketers directly is frowned upon and worse still, it’s spells desperation.

When we say targeting network marketers for your home-based business opportunity, we are talking about putting your offer in front of people who actually want to receive it. Can you see the difference? It’s huge. Instead of harassing and chasing people down, branding yourself and putting your message in the middle of a hungry crowd will create magic as far as lead generation is concerned.

Brenda Bunney

brenda It’s true, there are network marketers considered to be in limbo. That is, they are between work from home businesses or have tried it before and are currently in a situation where they are looking for the right opportunity or may believe the right home-based business may not exist for them.

Can you see the power in going after a targeted niche who already knows why it will be good for them as opposed to a group who still don’t know why they need a network marketing opportunity?

That’s why old school networking methods such as the “three foot rule” are detrimental to building a networking business, and why it’s such a killer for a person’s confidence. It gets back to putting your offer in front of people who are ready to receive it.

Have you asked your prospects IF they are looking for a home-based business and what are they looking for IN a business? If you simply put it in front of anyone, then the chances are very strong the majority will reject it thus leaving you dejected.

Worse case scenario,  you will eventually become disheartened from the “not interested” responses and bail out of your own work from home business, thus giving up on an industry with a great future.

brenda1When talking to a prospect for your work from home business try to give out company links when possible so the prospect can review the material.

Once the material is reviewed, ask questions that will help them determine if the work from home business you have is for them.

Good Questions To Ask A Prospect:

1) What are you looking for in a home business?

2) How familiar are you with the computer?

3) How many hours per week do you have to devote to a home business?

4) How do you see yourself marketing your business?

Once you have qualified your prospects, sit back and let them tell you what will work best for them.

Be ready to help them get started!
